The department of humanities at Mewar University is a centre of teaching and research composed of several disciplines. The department strives to nurture excellence in field of English and Hindi language and also in fine arts with its varied range of research interest and expertise. The department promotes interdisciplinary work in humanities and fine arts offering projects and supervision aimed to attract students and researchers from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.

The Department of English was established in 2019 under the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences with Post-Graduation in English Literature (Four Semesters) and PhD. A diverse range of courses like Linguistics & English Language Teaching (ELT), Indian writing in English, Women Writing, Literary Criticism & Theory, Caribbean Literature, and Introduction to Linguistics, taught in the Masters’ program make the Department distinct. The Department of English offers students an intellectually engaging and adventurous space for study, research, and pedagogic exploration. The aim of Department is to be globally literate while also taking cognizance of our rootedness in India, to promote intellectual and critical thinking among students, to provide opportunity to acquire fundamental writing skills, to make students learn about the powers of argument and analysis, and inculcating professionalism with humanitarian attitude, through teaching and training of English literature, language, and genre studies. The rigorous graduate program prepares students for careers in academic and other leadership fields. The courses offered in the program not only hone English language skills but also helps the student to become a global citizen in the truest sense, a “language professional” who utilizes competent intellect to deal with the various issues that arise in intercultural negotiations. The department’s objective is to provide an environment for holistic development of the students.
